One of the special awards this year was the Dorothy McElroy Award, named for the late Dorothy McElroy. Ms. Dorothy, as she was called, loved classic country music. "I was so pleased to present this award to Ron Vice in honor of Ms. Dorothy," said Karol. One of Dorothy's favorite country legends was Bill Anderson, who she had the pleasure of meeting at RCMH last summer before she passed away. Another special award went to Ms. Nancy Johnson. "Ms. Nancy is such a special, spirited person that RCMH wanted to honor this year," said Dyess. Johnson is known for dancing to her favorite songs, on the front row below the stage, before she tips a singer. Mayor John Monaco also made a surprise visit to RCMH on Saturday. Monaco presented RCMH with a proclamation from the City of Mesquite, declaring June 6, 2009 as Rodeo City Music Hall Day. Mayor Monaco has always been a strong supporter of RCMH and was named the 2008 Man of the Year at last year’s award show. |
